HN is also becoming less useful for anyone building a real-world AI workflow or seeking a practical tutorial on actually deploying these models. Its feed is saturated with superficial announcements, creating a desperate need for a dedicated space—or at least a robust filtering system—that lets users separate hype from genuine engineering.

Could Granular Filters Fix Content Overload?

What if the Y Combinator team introduced a more granular filter? Rather than a binary “AI or not AI” toggle, HN could offer separate categories: one for business developments such as funding, legislation, and pricing, and another for deep technical subjects such as architecture, self-hosting, and prompt engineering. Someone interested in the economics of LLM agents would not then have to encounter the same material as someone optimizing a local deployment of Llama 3.

For now, the community is absorbing this flood of content while the “hacker” spirit is pushed toward the margins. Better categorization could keep code-focused discussions and architectural trade-offs from being buried beneath the latest corporate announcement. Whether the answer is a new platform or a long-overdue feature update to the HN codebase, the present feed is unsustainable for anyone whose interests extend beyond AI business trends.
