Apple and Google Pressed to Purge 'Nudify' Apps
This move is a long-overdue step toward establishing better guardrails for generative AI in the consumer market. For too long, app stores have operated on a "launch first, fix later" mentality, allowing deepfake tools to proliferate without strict consent protocols.
While Apple and Google pride themselves on curated ecosystems, the existence of these apps suggests a gap between their stated privacy values and actual enforcement. The real challenge here isn't just deleting a few apps, but creating a standardized verification process for AI-generated content. If the platforms don't implement stricter submission requirements for AI image generators, we'll just see these apps rebranded and re-uploaded under different names every few months. It's time for the platforms to take proactive ownership of the AI tools they profit from.
