Xiaomi 18 Pro Max is the best and most playful Xiaomi phone yet

The Xiaomi 18 Pro Max finally nails the "rear screen" concept that started with the 17 Pro Max. While the previous generation sold well—with the 17 Pro Max alone accounting for over 40% of the 6.13 million units sold in the 17 series—it had some first-gen clunkiness. This new model fixes the gaps and dust buildup by making the rear screen completely flush with the camera glass.

How is the rear screen and hardware actually improved?

The rear screen is no longer just a gimmick; it uses the same M11 light-emitting material as the main display, hitting 400 PPI with slim 1.22mm borders. Instead of just being an app launcher, it focuses on "changeable cards" with over 100 built-in options. You can even use "vibe coding" to create custom cards for games or mood tracking.

The build quality has a noticeable shift toward ergonomics. The LIPO packaging process brings the screen bezels down to 0.99mm, and the back panel transition curve has been increased from 1.4mm to 1.9mm, making it feel much smoother in the hand than the 17 Pro Max.
