ReadPlusOne Builds Custom Spanish Stories From Your Vocabulary

ReadPlusOne generates short stories using about 95% vocabulary from words you've already mastered, while weaving in the target words you're actively learning. Click any unfamiliar word during reading and it goes into a spaced repetition system for future stories. The result is comprehension without constant dictionary-hopping.

The technical approach uses natural language processing to collapse nouns and adjectives to their lemmas (so libro and libros count as the same word), while tracking each verb tense separately since conjugation matters. When generating stories, the SRS selects which verb forms are due for review, then passes those along with your known vocabulary list to the story generator. A separate validator checks the draft's vocabulary against your records—rejecting and retrying if it strays too far outside your known word pool.

This solves a real problem I had with existing tools. Anki flashcards never stuck for me, and traditional graded readers require constant level guessing or vocabulary surprises. The app uses a quick on-boarding quiz to estimate your level, then you can immediately start generating and reading custom stories. Account required, but the personalization seems worth it.

Currently Spanish-only, optimized for A2 through advanced levels. Below A2 the vocabulary constraints make story generation challenging, but I'm planning English, French, and German versions once the Spanish implementation feels solid.
