GeForce NOW introduces DLSS 5 Neural Rendering in NBA 2K27 this month.
NVIDIA is introducing a significant technical advancement for cloud gaming this September, with a focus on enhancing the appearance of lighting and textures in sports simulations. This update not only adds 28 new titles to GeForce NOW but also integrates DLSS 5 3D-Guided Neural Rendering into NBA 2K27.
DLSS has traditionally focused on frame reconstruction or resolution enhancement. However, the new 3D-Guided Neural Rendering approach targets the complex interactions of light with organic surfaces, such as the shine on sweat or light filtering through hair during a fast break. Working closely with Visual Concepts and 2K, NVIDIA uses neural rendering technology similar to LLMs to simulate facial geometry and material physics. This method avoids the latency issues typically associated with brute-force rendering in cloud streams.
To access this feature, users need an Ultimate membership in an NVIDIA-operated region and must stream on a GeForce RTX 5080-class rig in the cloud. This setup bypasses local hardware limitations, allowing high-fidelity gameplay on devices like Macs, handhelds, or TVs without requiring a local GPU capable of neural rendering.
In addition to NBA 2K27, several other titles launching this week cater to various genres:
- The Blood of Dawnwalker (Rebel Wolves): This dark fantasy open-world RPG set in 14th-century Europe features a day/night cycle and a character who switches between human and vampire powers. The game's high processing demands make it ideal for cloud streaming with RTX 5080 performance.
- Onimusha: Way of the Sword (Capcom): This title brings back an Edo-period Kyoto setting with precise sword combat and soul-absorption mechanics. NVIDIA also noted Firefox browser streaming support, expanding device compatibility beyond standard applications.
