Perplexity and burstiness are the two main metrics detectors use to "catch" AI, but the irony is that professional, clean human writing often mimics these exact patterns. When you write with high clarity, consistent structure, and a formal tone, you're essentially ticking all the boxes that an LLM agent is trained to follow.

The "AI look" usually comes down to two things:

• Low Perplexity: Your word choice is predictable. If a detector can guess the next word in your sentence with high probability, it flags it as AI.
• Low Burstiness: Your sentence length is too uniform. AI tends to produce sentences of similar length and rhythm, whereas natural human speech is chaotic—mixing short, punchy sentences with long, winding ones.

If you're finding that your manual drafts are being flagged, it's usually because your prose is too "perfect" or follows a rigid academic structure. To fix this without compromising quality, you need to introduce intentional variance.

How to Humanize Your Prose

1. Break the Rhythm: If you have three medium-length sentences in a row, shorten the fourth one. Make it blunt.
2. Use Idioms and Slang: AI is getting better at this, but subtle, context-specific colloquialisms still signal a human brain.
