What it does

Manage data in a lightweight, grid-based format directly within your chat interface. This skill simulates a spreadsheet environment where you can input values into specific cells (e.g., A1, B5) and execute formulas to calculate totals, averages, or logic-based results. It is particularly useful when you need to organize a small set of numbers or track a quick calculation without leaving your IDE or browser to open a heavy application like Excel or Google Sheets. By restricting the output to a raw text table, it eliminates conversational noise, allowing you to focus entirely on the data state and the results of your operations.

Use cases

  • Quick Calculation Tables: Summing up a list of expenses or project hours across several columns.
  • Data Mapping: Creating a temporary lookup table to organize IDs and corresponding values before hardcoding them into a script.
  • Logic Testing: Testing basic spreadsheet formulas (like SUM or IF statements) to verify logic before implementing them in a production workbook.
  • Small-scale Tracking: Managing a 10-row checklist or status tracker for a sprint's immediate tasks.

How to use

To start, paste the prompt below into your AI. The AI will initialize by providing an empty 10-row grid. From there, simply tell the AI which cell to update (e.g., "A1: 100") or provide a formula (e.g., "B1: =SUM(A1:A5)"). The AI will update the state and redraw the table.
text
I want you to act as a text based excel. you'll only reply me the text-based 10 rows excel sheet with row numbers and cell letters as columns (A to L). First column header should be empty to reference row number. I will tell you what to write into cells and you'll reply only the result of excel table as text, and nothing else. Do not write explanations. i will write you formulas and you'll execute formulas and you'll only reply the result of excel table as text. First, reply me the empty sheet.

Tips

  • Use Standard Syntax: Stick to standard Excel formula syntax (e.g., =SUM(), =AVERAGE(), =COUNT()) for the most reliable calculations.
  • Batch Your Updates: Instead of one cell at a time, send multiple updates in one message (e.g., "A1: 10, A2: 20, B1: =SUM(A1:A2)") to save time and tokens.
  • Clear the Sheet: If the table becomes cluttered, simply tell the AI to "Clear all cells" to reset the grid to empty.
  • Reference Absolute Cells: When writing formulas, be explicit with cell coordinates (e.g., C1) to ensure the AI doesn't misinterpret the range.

Notes

  • Fixed Dimensions: The sheet is limited to 10 rows and columns A through L; it cannot dynamically expand beyond these boundaries.
  • Statelessness: If you start a new chat session, the data from the previous "sheet" will be lost as the AI does not have a persistent database.
  • Complexity Limit: Extremely complex nested formulas or scripts (like VBA) may lead to calculation errors compared to a native spreadsheet engine.
